Meeting on a graduate programme, tickr Founders Matt Latham and Tom McGillycuddy were overwhelmed by the complexities of the financial system and all the jargon that came along with it. Until they quickly realised that investing didn’t have to be that complicated or exclusive – it had just been built that way.
After a few years in banking, the sparkle of financial services was beginning to wear away. Tom was even considering leaving the industry altogether. Until he was introduced to impact investing – an emerging field of investing that focused on generating positive outcomes for society, as well as financial returns.
As fate had it, Matt was advising charities on how to make socially responsible investments. Both landed at a similar concept at just the right time – realising that finance could be used to make a return, and be a force for good in its own right.
The world of finance they had first been introduced to – so far removed from the lives of everyday people – became easier to understand through the lens of impact. Knowing that your money is being invested in companies who are making a difference in the world makes investing real, not just a concept that slips through your fingers – or something that people with much more capital than you do in faraway places.
Yes – impact investing was a force for positive change, but it was only accessible to experts, the wealthy and large-scale institutions. There was no easy way for ordinary people to gain access to the world of impact investing. That wasn’t good enough for Matt and Tom.
And so tickr was born. An investing platform built for ease, impact and transparency. So that anyone – regardless of their background or investment knowledge – gets the chance to invest in their future, and our collective one.
But investing isn’t where the story ends.
When it comes to impact, tickr is making waves. Bringing together impact investing, carbon offsetting and other impact features in one app, tickr users have all the tools they need to leave a positive impression on the world. Making an impact has never been easier.
